Learn and learning paths
Besides these docs there's Learn: tutorials and courses written by people who use Motion, and learning paths that take you through the docs in order, with a few checks along the way and a badge at the end. This page also covers what you can do on any docs page.
Learning paths
A learning path is a set of steps in order: docs pages, tutorials from Learn, and now and then a short question to check you've got it. They're listed on the docs' front page, under Learning paths, and on Learn beside the courses. Each says how many steps it has, about how long it takes and what level it's for.
Signed in, a path keeps your place:
- Mark as done, at the foot of a docs page, ticks off that step.
- A check is a question with a few answers. Pick one: a right answer counts, and a wrong one says Not quite: have another look at the step before. Try again as often as you like.
- Continue where you left off, on the docs' front page, opens the last page you read, with the next step of its path.
When every step is done and every check answered, the path says You've done every step., and you get the Learning path finished badge on your page on Motion Hub and on the forum. Signed out, you can read the whole path, but your answers aren't counted.
Learn's tutorials
Tutorials on Learn are written by people who use Motion, each read and checked by a moderator before it's published. Anyone can read, like and comment on them, and report one that breaks the Community rules. A tutorial rated Mature shows only to people who've chosen to see Mature scenes, as a scene would.
Writing tutorials is by invitation: ask on the forum, or write to [email protected]. Once you're a Learn creator and your account is a week old, click New tutorial on Learn, write it in Markdown, as the docs are, add pictures, and Send for review. A moderator publishes it, or sends it back with a note on what to change. A published tutorial gets you the Learn author badge, and the best ones can be brought into the docs themselves, still credited to you. A course is a list of tutorials in order; a signed-in learner ticks off each one they finish.
On any docs page
- Search: the box at the top, or Ctrl K, searches the docs, the reference and Learn together.
- Show the steps for: on a page whose steps differ by system, pick Windows, Linux or Android to see only yours.
- Was this page helpful?: at the foot of every page. If it wasn't, say what was wrong: whoever looks after the page reads it.
- Keep this page: keeps it in a list for later.
- Copy page as Markdown: copies the page's words, to paste anywhere.
- Every version of the docs: the docs for older releases of Motion stay there, each marked with the release it's for.
- What's new: each release's notes, which you can Follow with RSS.
Suggest a change
If a page is wrong or out of date, Suggest a change lets you put it right yourself. You edit a copy, and the docs' editors see your change where it goes, taking what's right. You see what happened to each one you sent. Suggesting is for Learn creators (above) whose account is a week old and in good standing; you can send three a day.
Notes on the reference
Each page of the reference can have Notes from the community: a tip, a gotcha, a setting that works well. Add a note writes one. An editor reads it before it shows. Notes, like suggestions, are for Learn creators with an account a week old, in good standing.
