Terms of Service

Last updated: 5 November 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Motion (motionlive.io) for Motion Player for Windows and Linux, Motion Studio, Motion for Android and Wear OS, Motion Hub (hub.motionlive.io), its sensor relay, Learn, the forum, and this site. They include the Community rules. Using Motion means you accept them. Privacy says how we handle your data.

Motion is provided by Motionlive ("Motionlive", "we"). Questions go to support@motionlive.io.

Your licence to use Motion

Motion's apps and the scenes that come with them belong to Motion and its licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use them on the devices your purchase allows. Don't sell, lend or give away the apps or your licence, get round the licence check, share licence tickets, or use Motion to break the law or harm Motion Hub, its relay or anyone's devices.

Parts of Motion are open source under their own licences, which come with the apps. Nothing here limits them.

What's free and what you buy

Motion for Android with its own scenes, browsing Motion Hub, and the watch app are free. Owning Motion opens the desktop app and Studio, your own scenes, and downloading and publishing on Motion Hub. Getting Motion lists it all.

You can buy Motion direct on motionlive.io; on Steam, under Steam's subscriber agreement; or on Google Play, as Motion Full, under Google Play's terms. Questions about a direct order, and refunds, go to support@motionlive.io (Refunds says how).

Buying direct. Direct orders are sold through Stripe's Managed Payments, so Sold through Link, LLC ("Link"), a Stripe company, is the merchant of record: it sells Motion to you on Motionlive's behalf. Link runs the checkout page, takes the payment, works out the sales tax or VAT where you live (added at checkout or included in the price, as checkout shows), collects it, pays it to the tax authorities in the countries Managed Payments covers, and sends your receipt and invoice, which say "Sold through Link". Your card or bank statement shows LINK.COM* and our name. Link also answers questions about the payment itself and handles disputes, and it can refund an order under its own refund policy (Refunds). Motion itself, its licence and everything else in these terms are between you and Motionlive.

Each also opens Motion Hub downloads and publishing, once Motion Hub knows the purchase is yours.

Bought direct or on Google Play, Motion runs on as many of your devices as you like: there's no device limit. Each has a licence ticket that renews every 30 days while you own Motion. Removing a device on Motion Hub signs it out until it signs in again. On Steam, Steam's rules apply.

A purchase covers that version of Motion and its updates in the same major version. We don't promise future features.

Refunds

Bought direct, you can have a full refund from us within 14 days (Refunds), and Link can refund a direct order under its own refund policy. Steam and Google Play refund under their own policies.

A refund, a voided purchase or a chargeback ends that licence: its devices stop within 30 days, and Motion Hub downloads close unless you own Motion another way. Your scenes stay yours.

We don't refund a licence ended because you broke these terms or the rules (If you break these terms or the rules). That doesn't take away a refund Link's policy or the law gives you.

In the EU and UK. The law usually gives you 14 days to cancel an online purchase. For digital content like Motion, that right can end once you've asked to have it straight away and agreed you lose the right by doing so. Our 14-day refund for direct orders applies anyway, whether or not you've started using Motion. If Motion is faulty or not as described, you also keep your legal rights to have it fixed, or to a price cut or refund.

Your account

You need a Motion Hub account to buy direct, publish, comment, follow makers and use sensors.

You can stop using Motion and delete your account at any time. Privacy says what that removes.

Scenes and other things you publish

What you publish on Motion Hub stays yours. Publishing it gives Motion a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy and show it, make previews of it, and let people download and use it on Motion Hub and in Motion's apps, while it's published and for copies already in people's libraries.

Nobody sells scenes on Motion Hub, and makers aren't paid for them.

Each scene carries the licence its maker chose: Personal use only (the default: as a wallpaper and in videos, with no remixes or reposting), Remix with credit (CC BY 4.0), Remix, credit, same terms (CC BY-SA 4.0), Remix with credit, not for commercial use (CC BY-NC 4.0), Free for anything (CC0 1.0), or the maker's own, shown on the scene's page. "In videos" includes videos and streams that earn money, as long as the scene isn't what's sold. For a Creative Commons licence, its legal code is the licence.

Only publish what you have the right to. You promise it's your own work or you have permission, its rating fits, and it keeps to the rules.

Changing or withdrawing what you've published

You can change a scene's licence, or withdraw a version, at any time. A new licence applies to downloads from then on. Withdrawing a version stops Motion Hub offering it, and if it was never under Creative Commons or CC0, Motion stops playing copies people downloaded. Copies under Creative Commons or CC0 keep working, as their licence allows.

What's checked when you publish

Motion Hub doesn't scan for malware or check for flashing before scenes go up. Moderators act on reports.

The rules for Motion Hub

What you publish, and how you behave, must keep to the Community rules. Moderators cite them by number. Rating scenes too low again and again breaks rule 3 or 5.

Content ratings

Every scene is rated Everyone or Mature (suggestive themes, non-sexual nudity, strong violence, gore, disturbing themes), and can say Has fast flashes and Made with AI. Motion Hub doesn't host sexual content at any rating, and no longer has an Explicit rating: a scene that was rated Explicit is hidden until its maker rates it Mature or Everyone, if it fits. Content ratings has the details.

Reporting

Use Report beside any scene or comment, or the form at hub.motionlive.io/report without an account or for something illegal. We confirm we got it, a moderator looks at it, and we tell you what they decided. We don't tell the maker who reported them, except for copyright notices.

Moderation

Moderators are people, and a person decides every report and every takedown. A few things happen automatically, by fixed rules:

On the forum, its own spam filter can hold a post for a moderator. Forum moderators give a reason when a post comes down, and you can appeal through Contact.

A moderator may leave something, ask its maker to change it, hide a scene while they look, change its rating, take a scene down, remove a comment, or suspend or close an account that breaks the rules seriously or repeatedly.

What you're told

Whenever we act on something of yours, we tell you on Motion Hub and by email: what we decided, under which rule or law, the facts it rests on, whether anything in it was automatic, and how to appeal.

Complaints and other ways to settle

You can complain about how we handled a report, a decision or anything else on Motion Hub through the appeals page, or by writing to support@motionlive.io. You can also take a decision to court; appealing to us first isn't required.

Appeals

Every decision about you is at hub.motionlive.io/appeals. Appealing is free, within 6 months of the decision:

Undoing a decision puts back the scene and its rating, the comment, or the account, and copies people downloaded play again. An account closed under rule 2 can't be appealed.

Copies people already downloaded

Taken down under rules 2, 6, 7 or 11 (exploiting minors, unmarked flashing, harmful code, illegal content) or after a copyright notice, Motion stops playing copies people downloaded. Under the other rules, copies keep working, marked as taken down. People who downloaded it see the rule, not what we wrote to its maker.

A taken-down file is kept where nobody can download it until no appeal or counter-notice is open or possible (at least 30 days for copyright), then deleted, unless the law says to keep it.

If you break these terms or the rules

If you break these terms or the Community rules, Motionlive may, depending on how serious it is and whether it has happened before:

We tell you what we did and why, and you can appeal within 6 months, as above, except a closure under rule 2. If the decision is undone, your account, its licence and what you published come back.

A suspended or closed account's scenes and collections leave Motion Hub, and its sessions and sensor tokens stop. Until it's deleted, its holder can still reach hub.motionlive.io/appeals from a link we email them, to appeal, download their data or delete the account themselves.

Child safety

Content that breaks rule 2 is removed as soon as a moderator confirms it, and its account closed. As the law requires, it's preserved and reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children or the authority the law names. If you come across it, report the page. Don't download it or send it to us.

If you think something on Motion Hub copies your work

Use the form at hub.motionlive.io/copyright, or write to Motion's copyright agent at dmca@motionlive.io. Include:

We take down what a valid notice covers and send its maker a copy, with your name and contact details. A notice you know is false may make you liable for the harm it does.

If your scene was taken down by mistake

Send a counter-notice from the decision's page at hub.motionlive.io/appeals, or to the same address, with:

We send it, with your contact details, to the person who sent the notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they've gone to court, the scene is back 10 to 14 business days after we got it.

Repeat infringers

A copyright takedown that isn't undone on appeal or by counter-notice is a strike. Three strikes close the account.

Scenes from other people

Scenes on Motion Hub are made by their makers, not by Motion. Motion's sandbox lowers the risk of other people's scenes but can't remove it: you add them at your own risk. Report one that misbehaves.

A creator can show links where people can support them: their usernames on Ko-fi, Patreon, GitHub Sponsors, Buy Me a Coffee and Liberapay, and up to four links of their own on the sites Motion Hub allows, once their account is a week old. Motion doesn't vouch for these services or for the creator. What you pay there is between you and the creator, under that service's own terms. Report links that break the rules or aren't the creator's own: a moderator can take them down.

A creator can link their Patreon and make a new version of a scene early for their patrons, for up to 30 days, after which it's public. You can link your Patreon to get early versions from the creators you support. An early version carries the scene's licence like any other, but it can't be remixed until it's public. Motion Hub's moderators can see early versions too.

Sensors and the relay

Motion Hub's relay passes readings from your devices to the wallpapers you choose. An account has up to 64 tokens. The relay takes only encrypted readings, up to 20 frames and 16 KB a second a token, and may slow or refuse what goes over that or puts it at risk.

Readings are encrypted on your devices: only you and the people you share with can read them, and Motion can't read or recover them. Sensor readings aren't medical data: don't rely on them for your health or safety.

Changes to Motion and to these terms

Features come, change and sometimes go, and Motion Hub may be down now and then. We change these terms only for a good reason, such as a new feature, a change in the law, or to make them clearer. The new version goes up here with its date, and we tell you on Motion Hub or by email before a change that matters to you applies. If you don't agree, you can stop using Motion and delete your account before then. Using Motion after that means accepting it.

Ending this agreement

You can end it at any time by deleting your account and stopping using Motion. We can end it, or suspend your account, as If you break these terms or the rules says, or if we stop running Motion Hub, in which case we tell you in advance. What you published keeps its licence for copies already downloaded, and these parts still apply: your licence to us for those copies, the limits on our liability, and the law that applies.

No warranty

Motion is provided as it is and as available. As far as the law allows, we don't promise it will suit your purpose, work on every device, or be free of faults.

If you're a consumer in the EU, the UK or another country whose law gives you rights about digital content (for example, that it matches its description and works as it should), those rights still apply, and nothing in these terms takes them away.

Limitation of liability

As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost data or lost profits, and our total liability to you is what you paid for Motion in the 12 months before the claim.

If you're a consumer in the EU or the UK, instead: we're responsible for loss you suffer that was a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to take reasonable care. We aren't responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, or for loss to a business.

Wherever you are, nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't let us limit, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for your rights as a consumer.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and by United States federal law, such as copyright law and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Where the law where you live gives you rights these terms can't take away, those rights still apply. If you're a consumer in the EU or the UK, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in the courts there.

Disputes and arbitration

If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Not acting on a breach doesn't mean we give up the right to.
